Lecture 3

This lecture talked about text. Text is important in our life and I can see it everywhere. However, I never analyze it deeply. From this lecture I started to notice what I miss in the normal life.

So, first of all, what is text? There is one beautiful lady who is working in England came that day and presented it. She showed to us text is fast, flexible, complete control, portable, searchable and dominates online. From the example of “UK and Italian hostages killed” that she showed to us I totally agree those points. Moreover, I felt the inverted pyramid form is so important for an article. The inverted pyramid form is a really useful form to write news. The most important part of article will be put on the first paragraph and the less important staff will be put on the tail. The image below explains very well.

For one article, it will catch people’s eyes to put most important staff on the head. When you already put it on like 5W1H, you won’t worry if there is enough space left for usually there is less space you can write.

Text is story content, headlines, standfirst, captions, pull quotes, break-out boxes and links as well. From example news “New ACTU boss to take on Abbott” those points can provide easily. The headline should write very dominant for it most often draws the eye first.

 

When you sent an email or write one blog the text is also appearing. Text is everywhere and  there is huge power on one good text.
